Losing weight is so individual. You really have to find what's best for you. I'm a picky eater, and it was always discouraging that I thought that I had to eat all the shit I hated. Couldn't have been more wrong. You don't have to quit eating rice and everything delicious. You just gotta lay off stuff that adds a lot of intake to your day like sodas. Processed stuff is gross anyways so kick that out. Think about what you're eating. If you have a heavy breakfast, have a light lunch. No math is really required. You can eat a lot more than you think. As long as you're doing cardio and some degree of weight lifting ... it will fly off. I went from 240 to 160 in just 7 months doing this.
